How to use Preeti text

To see Preeti text as Nepali letters, the Preeti font must be installed on the computer that opens the document. Unicode Nepali needs no extra font: phones, computers and browsers already include one.

Built-in check

Preeti text is hard to read without the font, so the converter checks its own work: it converts the result back to Unicode and shows whether it matches your text exactly. When it reports a difference, look for characters listed as having no Preeti key.

Known limitations

  • A few rare Preeti symbols are still being verified against real documents.
  • English text, numbers in English digits and a few special characters are left as they are and will not show correctly in the Preeti font.
  • Two dandas in a row come back as the double danda ॥.

Questions and answers

When do I need Unicode to Preeti?

When a form, a print template or a design file still uses the Preeti font. Office procedures, older newspaper layouts and some desktop publishing files expect Preeti text.

Why does the result look like random letters?

That is what Preeti text is: English keyboard characters that the Preeti font draws as Nepali. Paste the result into your document and set the font to Preeti to see Nepali.

How can I check that the conversion is right without the font?

Under the result, the converter turns its own output back into Unicode and tells you whether it matches your text exactly. You can also press Swap direction to see the round trip.

What happens to English words and numbers?

Latin words, web addresses and email addresses are kept as they are, and the page lists any character Preeti cannot show. They will not display as Nepali in the Preeti font.
